I am a UKRI-funded PhD candidate studying plant functional ecology in dry tropical ecosystems, with a background in biology and applied data science.
Growing up in Colombia, I found my passion for becoming a scientist and speaking for ecosystems that cannot speak for themselves. I became a biologist at UNAL where I learned about functional traits and ecological restoration. I developed my interest in ecosystem modelling through an MSc in data science at UoEx. I value reproducibility, collaboration and innovation. I try to put these values into my functional trait research about savannas, contrasting water and fire strategies across Africa and South America.
My broad interests include plant functional ecology and data science, with a focus on plant organs such as roots and hydraulic traits. I am interested in modelling ecosystems and aid ecosystem restoration and management for sustainable futures. I value the great biodiversity of tropical ecosystems, and I am keen on broadening understanding of these regions and their services for local communities and society.
